Agada Yoga ↔ Antivenom and Supportive Toxicological Care
Agada formulations are multi-route Ayurvedic anti-toxin preparations useful for mild local reactions and the recovery phase, but they are not antivenom and must never be substituted for it in systemic envenomation.
IN PLAIN LANGUAGE
Agada formulations are traditional multi-route treatments used for mild bite and sting reactions and recovery, but they are not a substitute for antivenom.
Modern medicine offers antivenom that directly neutralises venom in systemic envenomation; Ayurveda offers agada formulations that may help with mild local reactions and support recovery after the acute threat is treated.
WHEN TO SEEK CARE
Seek emergency care immediately for any bite or sting from a suspected venomous animal, or if swelling, bleeding, breathlessness, drooping eyelids or altered consciousness develop.
🔴 REFER IMMEDIATELY
- Signs of systemic envenomation: neurotoxic, haemotoxic or cardiotoxic features
- Rapidly progressing local swelling, cellulitis or necrosis at a bite or sting site
- Any bite or sting from a confirmed or suspected venomous species
- Any suspected venomous snakebite or scorpion sting requires immediate transfer to a facility stocked with antivenom
- Systemic symptoms such as ptosis, bleeding, breathlessness or altered consciousness after any bite or sting
Never do this
Never rely on agada alone in place of antivenom for a suspected venomous bite or sting; delaying antivenom for systemic envenomation is dangerous.
🟢 SUITABLE FOR ROUTINE / COLLABORATIVE CARE
AYURVEDA SCOPE
Agada formulations for mild local reactions, symptomatic relief, and support during the recovery or convalescent phase once the acute threat has been medically addressed.
MODERN MEDICINE SCOPE
Antivenom administration, airway and haemodynamic support, and monitoring for systemic envenomation.
COLLABORATIVE SCOPE
Agada may be used alongside modern supportive care for residual local symptoms after antivenom has addressed systemic envenomation, under medical supervision.
