Rakta Dhatu (Liver–Spleen Rooted Srotas) ↔ Haemopoiesis, Iron & Haemolysis Biochemistry

Classical Rakta Dhatu theory roots blood formation's channels in the liver and spleen, correctly identifying the two organs central to haematopoiesis and red-cell turnover, while modern haematology adds the molecular detail of stem-cell origin, iron biochemistry and haemolysis diagnostics.

IN PLAIN LANGUAGE

Blood is made continuously from stem cells in the bone marrow, and the liver and spleen play central roles in it — something classical Ayurvedic theory correctly identified even without knowing about stem cells or iron biochemistry.

Modern medicine offers precise blood tests that pinpoint whether anaemia is due to iron deficiency, haemolysis or another cause and treats accordingly, including preventing Rh disease in newborns. Ayurveda offers a long clinical tradition of organ-level observation and general dietary and constitutional support for recovery.

WHEN TO SEEK CARE

Seek prompt medical evaluation for unexplained paleness, tiredness or breathlessness, and urgently if jaundice, anaemia and dark urine appear together, or if you are Rh-negative and pregnant and have not received Anti-D injections.

🔴 REFER IMMEDIATELY

  • Jaundice with anaemia and reticulocytosis, which is haemolytic until proven otherwise regardless of the direct antiglobulin test result
  • Severe anaemia with haemodynamic compromise, such as breathlessness, tachycardia or chest pain
  • Rh-negative pregnancy without documented Anti-D prophylaxis
  • Any anaemia with jaundice and reticulocytosis requires a haemolysis work-up, even if the direct antiglobulin test is negative
  • Rh-negative mothers require Anti-D prophylaxis to prevent haemolytic disease of the newborn — this must never be skipped or treated as optional
  • Anaemia not responding to standard iron repletion needs laboratory re-evaluation for an alternative or coexisting cause

Never do this

Do not manage jaundice with anaemia and reticulocytosis, or Rh-negative pregnancy, with classical Pandu treatment alone without confirming the cause and ensuring modern haemolysis work-up or Anti-D prophylaxis.

🟢 SUITABLE FOR ROUTINE / COLLABORATIVE CARE

AYURVEDA SCOPE

Dietary and lifestyle support for uncomplicated Pandu once iron-deficiency anaemia has been confirmed and iron replacement started, and general constitutional care during recovery.

MODERN MEDICINE SCOPE

Laboratory diagnosis of anaemia's specific cause, including iron studies, reticulocyte count and direct antiglobulin test, iron replacement, haemolysis work-up, and Rh Anti-D prophylaxis in pregnancy.

COLLABORATIVE SCOPE

Ayurvedic clinicians managing Pandu should ensure iron studies, and where jaundice or reticulocytosis is present a haemolysis work-up, are done rather than treating pallor by symptom pattern alone.
